Intel is one of the world&#8217;s largest\u00a0semiconductor chip\u00a0manufacturers by revenue and ranked in the\u00a0<em>Fortune<\/em>\u00a0500\u00a0list of the largest United States corporations by revenue for nearly a decade, from 2007 to 2016 fiscal years, until it was removed from the ranking in 2018. \u00a0In 2020, it was reinstated and ranked 45th, being the\u00a07th-largest technology company in the ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intel supplies\u00a0microprocessors\u00a0for most manufacturers of computer systems, and is one of the developers of the\u00a0x86\u00a0series of instruction sets found in most\u00a0personal computers\u00a0(PCs). It also manufactures\u00a0chipsets,\u00a0network interface controllers,\u00a0flash memory,\u00a0graphics processing units\u00a0(GPUs),\u00a0field-programmable gate arrays\u00a0(FPGAs), and other devices related to communications and computing. Intel has a strong presence in the high-performance general-purpose and\u00a0gaming PC\u00a0market with its\u00a0Intel Core\u00a0line of CPUs, whose high-end models are among the fastest consumer CPUs, as well as its\u00a0Intel Arc\u00a0series of GPUs, and sponsors the\u00a0Intel Extreme Masters, a series of international\u00a0esports\u00a0tournaments. The Open Source Technology Center at Intel hosts\u00a0PowerTOP\u00a0and\u00a0LatencyTOP, and supports other open source projects such as\u00a0Wayland,\u00a0Mesa,\u00a0Threading Building Blocks\u00a0(TBB), and\u00a0Xen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intel (<em>Int<\/em>egrated\u00a0<em>el<\/em>ectronics) was founded on July 18, 1968, by semiconductor pioneers\u00a0Gordon Moore\u00a0(of\u00a0Moore&#8217;s law) and\u00a0Robert Noyce, along with investor\u00a0Arthur Rock, and is associated with the executive leadership and vision of\u00a0Andrew Grove.  The company was a key component of the rise of\u00a0Silicon Valley\u00a0as a\u00a0high-tech\u00a0center, as well as being an early developer of\u00a0SRAM\u00a0and\u00a0DRAM\u00a0memory chips, which represented the majority of its business until 1981.
